In 1959 trailers started getting the 6x12 sized plates.   The changeover occurred between T/M 212C and T/M 994Z.

In late 1959 or early 1960, the plates went from steel to aluminum and the new dies were used.   This happened between T/R 926E and T/R 299L.

With the 1960 base, trailer numbering started in the TU- series; somewhere after TUE.
Up until TZZ and then from TAA as high as TJU are reflectorized using glass-bead reflectorization.   They have metal tabs where the stickers are attached (the stickers wouldn't stick to the glass-bead reflective plates).

In mid-1970, the reflectorization was changed to Scotchlite for the TKA to TNZ series.   The tab slots went away at this point as well.
